Our Lady of Apostles (OLA) elect a new Superior General

Sr Mary T. Barron was elected on the 13th of July as Superior General of the Sisters of Our Lady of Apostles, during the General Chapter held in Rome. The OLA Sisters were founded in 1876 by Fr Augustine Planque, SMA for the evangelisation in Africa along with the Society of African Missions.

Sr Mary hails from Manorcunningham, Letterkenny, Co Donegal, in Ireland. After the first profession in 1995 she was a missionary in Central Tanzania (Mwamapalala and Bugisi). She holds a Masters degree in Development Studies and worked in Ireland in the area of Development in the Irish Missionary Union. In 2013 OLA General Chapter she was elected as first Assistant in the General Council headed by Sr Felicia Harry. She was also one of the two coordinators of the SMA-OLA Commission on the Common Spiritual Patrimony of the two Institutes. Fr. Antonio Porcellato was the other coordinator of the joint commission.
