Enthusiastic Audience, Charity Efforts, and Unforgettable Moments at Saint-Thomas Church in Vaulx-en-Velin

A Memorable Evening of Gospel Music

On Thursday, May 9, Saint-Thomas Church in Vaulx-en-Velin resonated with the uplifting music of Jean Claude Gianadda. Dressed in a cream sweater with rolled-up sleeves, black jeans, and sneakers, the gospel artist created a warm and participatory atmosphere. The audience, gathered from various backgrounds, enthusiastically joined Jean Claude in singing. The evening was marked by moments of sharing and generosity, with attendees purchasing albums, getting them signed, and contributing to a charity for Haiti.

A Testimony of Mission

Jean Claude Gianadda used the evening to emphasize what it means to be a missionary in 2024. “Being a missionary means becoming a witness, becoming a sign in such a way that those around us can draw from us what they truly need,” he stated. This message resonated powerfully, especially when he dedicated a song to the less fortunate, including people with disabilities, touching the hearts of all present.

Humanitarian Actions at the Heart of the Mission

Jean Claude Gianadda also shared his deep commitment to humanitarian actions through the Saint Bruno Association. For 50 years, this association has raised funds and supported projects such as creating an orphanage in Togo. The proceeds from album sales and collections have funded humanitarian works in Benin, Haiti, Lebanon, Madagascar, and Senegal. “Humanitarian actions have become a true commitment and fight for me,” he emphasized adding that “only what we give away remains with us.” He also quoted André GIde saying “all that is not given is lost.”

A Life of Sharing and Generosity

Despite being 80 years old and having some health issues, Jean Claude Gianadda accepted Father Dieudonné’s invitation to perform at this concert, even though he had retired from singing. He spoke emotionally about the time coming for him to “hang up his boots” and move into a retirement home, Notre-Dame de la Blache. “Dispossession makes us free. In the retirement home, ‘being’ is more important than ‘doing’,” he shared.

The Privilege of Being the Light of the World

The theme of the evening, from Matthew 5:14, “You are the light of the world,” was a powerful reminder of the responsibility Christians have to illuminate the world through their good deeds. “The world in 2024 sees the light when it witnesses the good we do around us,” he stressed, urging everyone to reflect benevolence in their behavior, actions, and words.

A Musical and Spiritual Legacy

Jean Claude Gianadda also spoke about his musical legacy, having transferred his 300 masters and 1,037 registered songs to a publishing house. “My songs will travel on their own, may the Holy Spirit shelter them under His wing,” he wished. He gratefully acknowledged his 50-year career, recognizing the blessing of expressing his faith and hopes through music.

Jean Claude Gianadda’s concert at Saint-Thomas Church in Vaulx-en-Velin was a remarkable evening of evangelization. Through his music and testimonies, Jean Claude demonstrated that unconditional love and sharing are at the heart of the Christian mission. As he leaves the stage, he leaves behind a legacy of faith, generosity, and light to inspire future generations.
