The book “Mio Dio, come sei buono. La vita e il messaggio di Charles de Foucauld” translated “My God, how good you are. The Life and Message of Charles de Foucauld” by Fr Andrea Mandonico, Sma, won the second edition of the Literary Prize of Ambassadors to the Holy See 2021.

The Literary Prize, born in 2019 at the initiative of a large group of ambassadors to the Holy See to pay homage to the language of Dante and the city that hosts their embassies, is intended for authors who publish books in Italian for the general public on questions relating to Christian culture and values, relations between churches and Christian states, the history of Christian churches and interfaith dialogue.

The jury of this second edition – chaired by Ambassador Alexandra Valkenburg, Head of Delegation of the European Union to the Holy See; and Pietro Sebastiani, Vice-President and Ambassador of Italy to the Holy See – proclaimed Father Andrea’s book, winner after a close examination of 57 books published in 2020.

The short biography of Blessed Charles de Foucauld highlights the strengths of his spirituality and his pastoral care.
Fr Andrea Mandonico opens his essay with an in-depth look at the time and history of the century in which Charles de Foucauld lived; and continues by tracing his biographical and mystical profile.

The work was born on the inspiration of the beatification of the martyrs of Algeria which took place on December 8, 2018, the story of which is told in the book “Simply Christians: The Life and Message of the Blessed Martyrs of Tibhirine” by Thomas Georgeon and François Vayne.

The award ceremony will take place at the “Palazzo Borromeo”, seat of the Italian Embassy to the Holy See on September 20.

We extend our warm congratulations to our confrere Andrea Mandonico.
